Each month, we feature an organization that is helping people through yarncrafts. This month's organization is reaching out to individuals undergoing treatment for cancer with fun hats and well-wishes

The Get Well Gang seeks to "warm both the heads and the hearts of patients undergoing cancer treatment." The organization began in 2003 when founder Gretchen Huntley's close friend, Celeste Rausch, passed away from cancer. Rausch’s treatment caused hair loss, which she always concealed with a hat. Unfortunately, all of her hats were uncomfortable and unflattering. After Rausch passed away, Huntley dedicated herself to making comfortable, beautiful hats for cancer patients.
What began with just six hats delivered to a cancer center has expanded enormously. To date, the Get Well Gang has donated over 12,000 hats throughout Canada and the United States. Each hat is made of 100% cotton to ensure comfort. Crafters are encouraged to be creative with color. Six hat patterns are available on the Get Well Gang website, including special designs for women, men, and children.
Volunteers should contact Huntley, who mails each crafter labels to personalize their gifts. Completed hats may be sent to the organization or donated to your local hospital or cancer organization.
