"A friend loves at all times." ~Proverbs 17:17

Friendships play a huge part in our faith. Surrounding yourself with like-minded people helps us stay on the right path. We all have a friendship that goes deeper than an occasional phone call. These friends inspire us to grow in our faith and they lift us up when we need lifting. These friends know what we are thinking sometimes without us ever saying a word. These friends hold us to our word. They listen to us vent and remind us when we need to let things go. They also tell you when the dress really doesn't look so flattering or when you have brocolli stuck between your teeth!

The Best Day Recipe - Written by Oksana

Tuesday, 08 September 2009
An ordinary morning. You are starting your ordinary day.
Do you want it to be ordinary?
Ask yourself a question: "What would I do if today was the last day of my life?"
I think your answer will be: "I would like it to be the best day of my life."
I don't want to upset you, but nobody can ever find out what day is going to be the last.
And so it's better to live each day of your life as if it is the last.
I'm not telling you to quit your job and spend all you money on traveling:)
But you can live your life to its fullest by adding some simple things to each day.
It doesn't matter what is going on, but it does matter how you feel about it.
Do not forget that life is too short to be unhappy!
Here is my recipe for the best day on Earth!

{Scripture Challenge 2} Challenge Word #12, Grow

First, I want to let everyone know that I am at a Copic Certification class today so I will announce the RAK winner in a post later tonight or Monday morning! :) Thanks for waiting patiently for me! Now onto this week's challenge! Challenge #12: Grow

Would you call your faith—growing, stagnant, or disappearing? As you have studied these past 24 weeks, do you feel you are growing in your knowledge of who God is? Are you growing in your love for Him and in your desire to live for Him daily? Or are things the same or maybe you feel like your faith is disappearing. Nothing in our lives should be wasted. We should learn and grow from each experience (good or bad). Romans 8:28 says “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

{Scripture Challenge 2} Challenge Word #11, Purpose

Challenge Word #11: Purpose (Copied and pasted from Patter Cross blog) Scripture Challenge 2 - 2010
Dictionary.com defines purpose as “the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used, etc.”
So, what is your purpose in life? Is it to glorify God in all you do? Do you know God’s purpose for your life or are you constantly searching for something? We are to bring glory to God in all we do thus leading others to Him. God will use every person for His purpose and to display His glory. He will use our obedience and our disobedience. Think of how God used even Pharaoh to display His purpose and power. Exodus 9:16 says “But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” As God sent each of the plagues, His power was displayed and His name was proclaimed. If you have time, I encourage you to read Exodus 9-12:30.
We can plan all we want. Some of us would even love to see God’s billboard that tells us His purpose for us but as Proverbs 19:21 says “Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.” Are you a planner? Do you know where you are going each day? Are you seeking His purpose or are you busy, busy, busy but not really getting anywhere?

And how about suffering? Even in our suffering, He has a purpose. Do you look “up” when you suffer or do you turn to the world? Do you seek His purpose for the suffering or do you wallow in self pity and complain to others? There is no doubt that suffering is painful but it is temporary, and the delights of God’s glory will last forever. Romans 8:18 says “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

God has a purpose in everything He does and in every life He creates. He gives each of us gifts, talents, and abilities. We are to use them for His purpose and His glory. Are you doing that? Will you ask Him where He wants to use you in the days and months ahead? Ask Him to help you follow His purpose for you. He will do that; just ask! Philippians 2:13 says “For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.”

{Scripture Challenge 2} Challenge Word #15, Fear Not

Challenge Word #15: Fear Not
Isaiah 41:10 says “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Let Him strengthen you and help you in all things! Ask Him; He will!!!

The scripture I chose for this study was perfect for me. There were so many passages that spoke to me but this one was perfect for my fear of the dark:
Psalm 91:4-6 “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday."

{Scripture Challenge 2} Challenge Word #14, Forgive

I actually had another word picked out for our study this week but God kept bringing this word—forgive—to my mind. So, in obedience to Him, we are going to look at:
Challenge Word 14: Forgive

Have you ever been hurt so deeply that you feel you cannot forgive that person? Maybe you were lied to, rejected, taken advantage of, or even worse. How did you react? Did you hold onto it and become angry and bitter? Are you still holding onto it? Do you feel like it’s eating a hole right through you as the bitterness festers? Is it then causing you to gossip and speak ill of that person? Well, the Bible tells us that we are to forgive as God forgives us. Colossians 3:13 says “Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”

The Most Important Command

Matthew 22:36-39 ( The Message Bible)

34-36 When the Pharisees heard how he had bested the Sadducees, they gathered their forces for an assault. One of their religion scholars spoke for them, posing a question they hoped would show him up: "Teacher, which command in God's Law is the most important?"

37-40 Jesus said, "'Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.' This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: 'Love others as well as you love yourself.' These two commands are pegs; everything in God's Law and the Prophets hangs from them."

Psalm 39-41 (The Message)

Psalm 39
A David Psalm
1-3 I'm determined to watch steps and tongue so they won't land me in trouble.
I decided to hold my tongue
as long as Wicked is in the room.
"Mum's the word," I said, and kept quiet.
But the longer I kept silence
The worse it got—
my insides got hotter and hotter.
My thoughts boiled over;
I spilled my guts.
4-6 "Tell me, what's going on, God?
How long do I have to live?
Give me the bad news!
You've kept me on pretty short rations;
my life is string too short to be saved.
Oh! we're all puffs of air.
Oh! we're all shadows in a campfire.
Oh! we're just spit in the wind.
We make our pile, and then we leave it.
7-11 "What am I doing in the meantime, Lord?
Hoping, that's what I'm doing—hoping
You'll save me from a rebel life,
save me from the contempt of dunces.
I'll say no more, I'll shut my mouth,
since you, Lord, are behind all this.
But I can't take it much longer.
When you put us through the fire
to purge us from our sin,
our dearest idols go up in smoke.
Are we also nothing but smoke?
12-13 "Ah, God, listen to my prayer, my
cry—open your ears.
Don't be callous;
just look at these tears of mine.
I'm a stranger here. I don't know my way—
a migrant like my whole family.
Give me a break, cut me some slack
before it's too late and I'm out of here."
Psalm 40
A David Psalm
1-3 I waited and waited and waited for God. At last he looked; finally he listened.
He lifted me out of the ditch,
pulled me from deep mud.
He stood me up on a solid rock
to make sure I wouldn't slip.
He taught me how to sing the latest God-song,
a praise-song to our God.
More and more people are seeing this:
they enter the mystery,
abandoning themselves to God.
4-5 Blessed are you who give yourselves over to God,
turn your backs on the world's "sure thing,"
ignore what the world worships;
The world's a huge stockpile
of God-wonders and God-thoughts.
Nothing and no one
comes close to you!
I start talking about you, telling what I know,
and quickly run out of words.
Neither numbers nor words
account for you.
6 Doing something for you, bringing something to you—
that's not what you're after.
Being religious, acting pious—
that's not what you're asking for.
You've opened my ears
so I can listen.
7-8 So I answered, "I'm coming.
I read in your letter what you wrote about me,
And I'm coming to the party
you're throwing for me."
That's when God's Word entered my life,
became part of my very being.
9-10 I've preached you to the whole congregation,
I've kept back nothing, God—you know that.
I didn't keep the news of your ways
a secret, didn't keep it to myself.
I told it all, how dependable you are, how thorough.
I didn't hold back pieces of love and truth
For myself alone. I told it all,
let the congregation know the whole story.
11-12 Now God, don't hold out on me,
don't hold back your passion.
Your love and truth
are all that keeps me together.
When troubles ganged up on me,
a mob of sins past counting,
I was so swamped by guilt
I couldn't see my way clear.
More guilt in my heart than hair on my head,
so heavy the guilt that my heart gave out.
13-15 Soften up, God, and intervene;
hurry and get me some help,
So those who are trying to kidnap my soul
will be embarrassed and lose face,
So anyone who gets a kick out of making me miserable
will be heckled and disgraced,
So those who pray for my ruin
will be booed and jeered without mercy.
16-17 But all who are hunting for you—
oh, let them sing and be happy.
Let those who know what you're all about
tell the world you're great and not quitting.
And me? I'm a mess. I'm nothing and have nothing:
make something of me.
You can do it; you've got what it takes
but God, don't put it off.
Psalm 41
A David Psalm
1-3Dignify those who are down on their luck; you'll feel good—that's what God does.
God looks after us all,
makes us robust with life—
Lucky to be in the land,
we're free from enemy worries.
Whenever we're sick and in bed,
God becomes our nurse,
nurses us back to health.
4-7 I said, "God, be gracious!
Put me together again—
my sins have torn me to pieces."
My enemies are wishing the worst for me;
they make bets on what day I will die.
If someone comes to see me,
he mouths empty platitudes,
All the while gathering gossip about me
to entertain the street-corner crowd.
These "friends" who hate me
whisper slanders all over town.
They form committees
to plan misery for me.
8-9 The rumor goes out, "He's got some dirty,
deadly disease. The doctors
have given up on him."
Even my best friend, the one I always told everything
—he ate meals at my house all the time!—
has bitten my hand.
10 God, give grace, get me up on my feet.
I'll show them a thing or two.
11-12 Meanwhile, I'm sure you're on my side—
no victory shouts yet from the enemy camp!
You know me inside and out, you hold me together,
you never fail to stand me tall in your presence
so I can look you in the eye.
13 Blessed is God, Israel's God,
always, always, always.
Yes. Yes. Yes.

Romans 13:1-8 (The Message) - another Reading of the same message..

Romans 13:1-8 (The Message)

Romans 13
To Be a Responsible Citizen
1-3 Be a good citizen. All governments are under God. Insofar as there is peace and order, it's God's order. So live responsibly as a citizen. If you're irresponsible to the state, then you're irresponsible with God, and God will hold you responsible. Duly constituted authorities are only a threat if you're trying to get by with something. Decent citizens should have nothing to fear.
3-5 Do you want to be on good terms with the government? Be a responsible citizen and you'll get on just fine, the government working to your advantage. But if you're breaking the rules right and left, watch out. The police aren't there just to be admired in their uniforms. God also has an interest in keeping order, and he uses them to do it. That's why you must live responsibly—not just to avoid punishment but also because it's the right way to live.
6-7 That's also why you pay taxes—so that an orderly way of life can be maintained. Fulfill your obligations as a citizen. Pay your taxes, pay your bills, respect your leaders.
8-10 Don't run up debts, except for the huge debt of love you owe each other. When you love others, you complete what the law has been after all along. The law code—don't sleep with another person's spouse, don't take someone's life, don't take what isn't yours, don't always be wanting what you don't have, and any other "don't" you can think of—finally adds up to this: Love other people as well as you do yourself. You can't go wrong when you love others. When you add up everything in the law code, the sum total is love.

EBC- Sermon Title - GOD FIRST - 7-19-2010

Romans 13:1-8 (Amplified Bible)

Romans 13
1LET EVERY person be loyally subject to the governing (civil) authorities. For there is no authority except from God [by His permission, His sanction], and those that exist do so by God's appointment.(A)
2Therefore he who resists and sets himself up against the authorities resists what God has appointed and arranged [in divine order]. And those who resist will bring down judgment upon themselves [receiving the penalty due them].
3For civil authorities are not a terror to [people of] good conduct, but to [those of] bad behavior. Would you have no dread of him who is in authority? Then do what is right and you will receive his approval and commendation.
4For he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, [you should dread him and] be afraid, for he does not bear and wear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant to execute His wrath (punishment, vengeance) on the wrongdoer.
5Therefore one must be subject, not only to avoid God's wrath and escape punishment, but also as a matter of principle and for the sake of conscience.
6For this same reason you pay taxes, for [the civil authorities] are official servants under God, devoting themselves to attending to this very service.
7Render to all men their dues. [Pay] taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, and honor to whom honor is due.
8Keep out of debt and owe no man anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor [who practices loving others] has fulfilled the Law [relating to one's fellowmen, meeting all its requirements].

My Lifetime Story Challenge 28 - What If?

Question Copies and pasted from http://faith-sisters.blogspot.com/.
I did answer the question and layout will follow, later.

This challenge was inspired by an idea from Lisa Bearnson. Lisa is both mine and Sunny's Scrapbook Idol! We just love her and her work. In her book OUR FAMILY SCRAPBOOKS, Lisa Bearnson would shared an idea for defining who you are. She says, Does your family know who you are? Do they know your likes and dislikes, your hopes and dreams, your goals and values?

Create a layout that will teach your family members more about who you are through a series of "What if" questions. ( layout to follow)
If you could have personally witnessed one event in history, what would you have wanted to see? God has left me around to Witness the First Black President to enter the White House .. President Barack Obama the USA 44th President. January 29th 2009.
If you had to choose someone right now to be the president of the United States, who would you want it to be? President Barack Obama!
If you could adopt one personality trait from someone you know, what would you take and from whom? My Mom. Her calmness… She is always Calm my mom never get EXCITED! Even as a child growing up my mom never got excited even when she beat me and my brothers.
If you could eliminate one habit you have, what would you stop doing? Procrastination – Very Bad HABIT!
If you could have one job in the world, what would it be? Owning my own business – Scrapbooking as many might know is my life, I love CREATING almost about anything .. I make my own cards, and invitation and mostly everything for everyone. I just wish I had the get up and go. To get the bossiness started. Yes! …. I’m praying on it….
If my family and I could do anything on a Saturday, what would it be? Bowling (Me and Najee love to Bowl)…., going to the Beach here in North Carolina.
If I could teach my children only one thing, what would it be? To be compassionate ( and have Great love like Our lord Jesus Christ has) to all people,… Love others as if you loved yourself.
If I could thank just one person for being the biggest influence in my life, who would it be? It’s would be My Mom ( Rosa Graves) she was tuff on me at sometimes but always stayed by me …. Thur all lift challenges, she taught me so much . Single motherhood was something that I didn’t want but I think, because my mom did it , so could I….Being strong and knowing that GOD has my steps ordered.. My Mother would tell me about GOD ( we even when to church together) and I thank my Mom for keeping the influence of God in my life. Thank you mom, your such a (GREAT) Influence in my Life….
If my family could live anywhere, it would be? I Love NYC, and I’ve lived there for over 40yrs, Born and raise but I do love Raleigh, NC and would not want to live anywhere else.
