Valid Entry - 3-31-2011 Our Daily Bread

Christ alone, through His death and resurrection, paid the price for our sins. And only He can give us valid entry into the presence of the Father.
Have you put your faith in Jesus?
Make sure you have a valid entry into heaven.

There aren’t many ways into heaven;
The Bible says there’s only one;
Good works won’t gain anyone entrance;
It’s only through faith in God’s Son. —Sper
Only through Christ can we enter the Father’s presence.

Serve Him Today - 3-31-2010 - Our Daily Word

We can’t undo yesterday, but we can act today to influence tomorrow. Samuel promised to pray for them and teach them the right way. He urged them, “Only fear the Lord, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you”.

God invites us to serve Him today, humbly acknowledging His forgiveness and His faithfulness.
Sins confessed you must forget;
Look not back to yesterday—
Full of failure and regret;
Look ahead and seek God’s way. —D. De Haan
Don’t let yesterday’s failures bankrupt tomorrow’s efforts.

Talk Low, Talk Slow - Our Daily Word - 3/29/2011

Gideon gave a soft answer during a verbal scuffle with some fellow Israelites (Judg. 8). Just after his army defeated the Midianites, a group of his countrymen criticized him sharply (v.1). They were miffed because they missed out on the main part of the battle. Gideon did not fling back a rough response. Instead, he reminded them that they had captured and killed the Midianite princes. He also honored the men by asking, “What was I able to do in comparison with you?” Finally, “their anger toward him subsided when he said that” (v.3).
With the Lord’s help, we can defuse heated situations by reining in our words. Responding gently and carefully to angry people can promote unity, for God’s glory.
Lord, set a guard upon my lips,
My tongue control today;
Help me evaluate each thought
And watch each word I say. —Hess

Gold-Medal Effort - Our Daily Word - 3/28/2011

At the 2009 Kansas high school state track championship, an unusual thing happened. The team that won the girls 3,200-meter relay was disqualified. But what happened next was even more unusual. The team that was awarded the state championship by default turned right around and gave their medals to the team that had been disqualified.
The first school, St. Mary’s Colgan, lost first place because judges ruled that a runner had stepped out of her lane as she handed off the baton. That meant the second team, Maranatha Academy, moved up to first. After receiving their medals, the girls from Maranatha saw the downtrodden looks on the faces of the St. Mary’s girls, so they gave them their individual medals.

Why did they do this? As Maranatha’s coach Bernie Zarda put it: “Our theme for the year was to run not for our glory, but for God’s glory.” As a result of the girls’ action, their story was told throughout Kansas, and God’s name was lifted up.
When we set aside our own interests and accomplishments to recognize that it’s better to care for the interests of others (Phil. 2:4), we see God’s name glorified. Acting with grace and kindness toward others is one of the best ways to point people to God.
Love is not blind but looks
Abroad through others’ eyes,
And asks not, “Must I give?”
But, “May I sacrifice?” —Ziegler
When we love God, we will serve people.

Failures Anonymous - Our Daily Bread - Friday 3/25/2011

While Peter and his cohorts were casting nets, Jesus built a fire on the beach. Coincidence? I doubt it! And as Peter approached Jesus, I wonder if the pungent aroma of the burning charcoal brought back memories of that other fire where he had failed Christ. Yet Jesus in His mercy took the initiative to call Peter back into His service.

Think of it: Jesus is willing to forgive our failures and call us into His service. After all, if only perfect people qualified to serve Him, He wouldn’t have anyone to choose from!

Although we are imperfect,
The Lord can use us still,
If we confess our sins to Him
And seek to do His will. —Sper
Being imperfect doesn’t disqualify us from serving God;
it just emphasizes our dependence on His mercy.

Money Worries - Our Daily Word - 3-24-2011

Jesus urges His listeners to seek treasure in the kingdom of God, for such treasure can benefit them in this life and the next one too. “Do not worry,” He says (v.22), for God is the one who provides for our needs. And then to emphasize His point, He brings up King Solomon, the richest man in the Old Testament. Jesus said that a common wildflower is clothed more gloriously by God than a royal king. So do not have an anxious mind (vv.27-29), “but seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you” (v.31).
Better to trust in the God who lavishes care on the whole earth than to spend our lives worrying about money and possessions.

If this is what you are experiencing today, rejoice. Surrender to His touch and acquire a joy and fruitfulness you never imagined possible.

ABC Scripture Challenge {Word #4}, Delight

Challenge Word #4: Delight
I found it interesting as I began studying this week’s word. I noticed that the word ‘delight’ was repeated over and over again in Psalm 119. So, as I researched, I found that Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible and almost every verse mentions God’s Word and how we are to delight in it. A few wonderful verses include:
Psalm 119:16 “I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.”
Psalm 119:24 “Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors.”
Psalm 119:35 “Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.”
Psalm 119:47 “for I delight in your commands because I love them.”
Psalm 119:77 “Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight.”

ABC Scripture Challenge {Word #2}, Bible

Challenge Word #2: BibleIs the Bible the Book for you? Do you know that His Word is absolute truth? Do you read it, pray, and then obey it? It seems like such a simple song but it is full of great instruction for us. The Bible:
• Should have an impact on our lives (2 Kings 22:11-13).
• Should teach us the difference between right and wrong (Joshua 1:7-8).
• Is God’s guide for us (Psalm 48:14, 2 Timothy 4:16).
• Is reliable, without error, and does not contradict itself (Numbers 23:19, 2 Samuel 22:31; Psalm 33:4, Proverbs 30:5).
• Its truths never change (Mark 13:31).
• Is relevant to all ages (Deuteronomy 6:6-9).
• Reveals the living God, our Holy Creator (Deuteronomy 32:6, Luke 24:1-9).

Those are just a few ‘highlights’ of what the Bible is and should be to us. I encourage you to read each of the Scriptures listed above. As the inerrant Word of God, we cannot pick and choose what we think is truth and what is not. We either believe the entire Bible or we make the entire Book false. If we do not agree with that, then we need to pray that God help us align ourselves with Him because we are the ones with the faulty thinking.

A great word and a picture of my Church! Knightdale NC

My friend’s experience reminds me of another friend of God who suffered with unanswered questions (Job 7:20-21). Only when God finally broke His silence and gave Job a vision of Himself in the wonder of creation did Job find something that was better than answers (42:1-6). Only then did Job find peace in knowing that our God has good and even wonderful reasons to trust Him.

Challenge Word #6: Forget

Challenge Word #6: Forget - Copied and pasted from Patter cross blog - www.triplethescraps.blogspot.com/ . The ABC Challenge 2011.

Have you ever heard of someone tying a string around their finger so that they wouldn’t forget something? Or maybe you put everything into your smart phone so that you don’t forget things. Maybe you are going through a struggle right now and you feel like everyone has forgotten you including God. Maybe you feel like the Israelites in Isaiah 49:14 that said “But Zion said, ‘The LORD has forsaken me, the Lord has forgotten me.’” God has not forgotten you! His response to the Israelites in Isaiah 49:15-16a is just beautiful—“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands . . .” He hasn’t forgotten you, and He won’t forget you in the future.Engraved means to “cut into.” So, our names are forever written on His hands. Our names will not wash off; they are forever there in front of Him on His hands! He is ever mindful of you and of me! His compassion and love for us far exceeds that of even the most loving parent. Matthew Henry said this about the engraving on His hands—“Some apply His engraving His church on the palms of His hands as to the wounds in Christ’s hands when He was crucified; He will look on the marks of them and remember those for whom He suffered and died.” Oh, I just love that thought!
When we are weak in our faith or see tragedies such as what has happened in Japan, it is easy to think that God has forgotten us. But, we must remember that God is the great promise keeper. If He says “I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands,” we can trust that is true. He will not forget you! God does not lie or break a promise thus we can trust this is true. Hebrews 6:13-18 says “When God made His promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for Him to swear by, He swore by himself, saying, ‘I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.’ And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised. People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of His purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, He confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.” How comforting it is to know that others may forget us but God never, ever will!

Week 8 - P365 - Ephesians 2:10

Providence 365: Week 8 -
(Copied and Pasted from http://www.faithsister.com/)
Did you do any little random acts of kindness today? Or, for that matter, any big planned acts of kindness?
How about cuddling a child who's crushed with emotion?
Making a special dessert for a good report card?
Holding open a door for a frail elderly woman?
Finishing up adoption papers for your new child?
Sharing a meal with a lonely neighbor?
Visiting with sick and dying friend?
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
According to Ephesians 2:10, those little deeds of kindness you do aren't “random” at all. They are God's Providence, actually planned from long ago, just for you! Doesn't that change your attitude? It does mine!
It means that you were placed in your life for a purpose. Perhaps today, it's to give the homeless man in front of Trader Joe's a sandwich. Maybe tomorrow, it's mailing an encouraging card to your pastor. Yesterday, it might have been just to give the harried barista at Starbucks a sincere thank you and a smile.
So, this week, I'm encouraging you to look for those opportunities to do good deeds. Not to gain approval from men, but out of a sincere heart of gratitude for the wonderful act of kindness God did for you through His Son.

The Overflow - Our Daily Bread - 3/11/11

Maybe that’s why in Psalm 103 David reminds us to “forget not all His benefits” (v.2). And then, to help us, he lists a torrent of blessings for believers. He reminds us that God forgives all our iniquities, heals all our diseases, redeems our lives from destruction, crowns us with lovingkindness, and satisfies our mouths with good things (vv.3-5).
Today, let’s take time to acknowledge God’s abundance instead of overlooking the overflow of His blessings.
We’re loaded with benefits daily,
Sent down from the Father above;
His mercies and blessings abounding
Are gifts of His marvelous love. —Anon.
Adding up your blessings will multiply your joy.

Five-Minute Rule - Our Daily Bread - 3-10-11

This Daily Word  for today is Awesome, I had to post the complete message. take time today even if it's 5 only minutes. Gos will hear you and reply, keep you mind, ears and eyes open to his signs and wonders.
I read about a 5-minute rule that a mother had for her children. They had to be ready for school and gather together 5 minutes before it was time to leave each day.

They would gather around Mom, and she would pray for each one by name, asking for the Lord’s blessing on their day. Then she’d give them a kiss and off they’d run. Even neighborhood kids would be included in the prayer circle if they happened to stop by. One of the children said many years later that she learned from this experience how crucial prayer is to her day.

The writer of Psalm 102 knew the importance of prayer. This psalm is labeled, “A prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed and pours out his complaint before the Lord.” He cried out, “Hear my prayer, O Lord . . . ; in the day that I call, answer me speedily” (vv.1-2). God looks down “from the height of His sanctuary; from heaven [He views] the earth” (v.19).

God cares for you and wants to hear from you. Whether you follow the 5-minute rule asking for blessings on the day, or need to spend more time crying out to Him in deep distress, talk to the Lord each day. Your example may have a big impact on your family or someone close to you.

The issue isn’t how much time
We spend with God in prayer,
But seeking Him throughout each day
And knowing that He’s there. —Sper
Prayer is an acknowledgment of our need for God.

Providence 365 - Week Nine Sunday 2/28/2011- Matthew 23:11-12

( You can see the completed P365 on http://www.faithsister.com/)
*****
Humility
The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Matthew 23:11-12
Humble is often defined as being not proud or arrogant, when what you do is offered in a spirit of deference or submission; an unpretentious act, not seeking recognition.
How did Jesus serve? When did He serve? Where did He serve?
His life among us was about service. He came here to serve, not to be served. He was strong, He was compassionate, He cared, He loved and He served…with humility.
How do you serve? When do you serve? Where do you serve? And do you serve with humility? Humility is not something that we simply decide to have as a character trait. It is a trait that simply is. It is loving others and serving others – as Jesus would do. It is the acts that we do to help others simply because it is the right thing to do…for them – not for us.
Now, you may be thinking I am going to ask you to create a layout based on your service to others. Yet, to do so, you would not be humbling yourself. With that in mind, I want you to reflect on an individual in your life that has set the premier example of service and humility – someone who was strong, compassionate and one who served in humility. Dedicate your layout to them. Share what you have learned from their acts of service.

The method God uses today hasn’t changed. Whereas Satan’s voice tempts us to gain power, the voice of Jesus tells us that the meek will inherit the earth (Matt. 5:5). Virtuoso 3/2/2011 Our Daily Bread

Then during a visit to California, he was invited to a church where he heard a clear presentation of the gospel. Of this he wrote: “That night I lay awake, broken over my sins. . . . I had lived very selfishly and it had not made me happy. . . . It was then that I asked Jesus Christ to come into my life, to be my Lord and Savior. For the first time, I remember telling Him, ‘Whatever You want me to do with my life, Lord, I’ll do it.’”

One of Parkening’s favorite verses is 1 Corinthians 10:31, “Therefore, . . . whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” He has taken up the guitar again, but this time with the motivation to glorify God.

Each of us has been given gifts; and when we use them for God’s glory, they bring satisfaction and joy.
The gifts we offer to the Lord
Are by His standards measured;
Our sacrifice and lives of praise—
Such gifts are highly treasured. —Sper
We were created to give God the glory.

Win Or Lose 3/1/2011 - Our Daily Word

The apostle Paul experienced God’s deliverance many times, but he didn’t insist on things going his way. From prison in Rome he wrote to Timothy: “I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand” (2 Tim. 4:6). Some might say that Paul had failed to accomplish his goals and that his life was ending in defeat. But he saw it differently: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (v.7). He looked forward to an eternal crown (v.8).
As we walk with God, we can praise Him for His faithfulness—win or lose.
I can always count on God, my heavenly Father,
For He changes not; He always is the same.
Yesterday, today, forever, He is faithful,
And I know He loves me, praise His holy name! —Felten
In every change He faithful will remain. —Katharina von Schlegel
