Sometimes the suffering you experience may appear absolutely senseless. You do everything you can to obey God and honor Him with your life, but repeatedly encounter frustrating obstacles and agonizing circumstances. During such times, you may eventually reach a point of brokenness when you feel as if you cannot go on. You come to the painful realization that you’re just not strong enough to live the holy life that Christ has called you to. Believe it or not—this is right where you need to be for the Father to use you in the most effective way possible.

God never meant you to live the Christian life by your own wisdom or ability. This is what the Lord revealed to the apostle Paul when He said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness” (2 Cor. 12:9). It isn’t when you are at your strongest that people can see the Father’s awesome work in your life, but when you are at your most helpless and success is absolutely impossible without His intervention. This is why God must free you from your self-sufficiency—so that you’ll allow Christ to demonstrate His presence in and through you. It’s only through brokenness that you stop depending on yourself and start relying wholeheartedly upon Him.
